Depeche Mode formed as the 70s came to an end, in Basildon, Essex. The new decade before them would bring a revolution in electronic music and the band tapped right into it. After signing to Daniel Miller's label, Mute, the group released their first single, Dreaming of Me. Depeche Mode continued to climb the charts and by their third release, Just Can't Get Enough, they were a UK Top 10 act. Violator became Depeche Mode's biggest selling album. In the US alone it had sold four and a half million copies. The single, Enjoy the Silence, helped push these sales by going gold internationally.
