Disasters like Brazilian landslides, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2004 tsunami killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions. Urbanization worsens flooding by reducing soil absorption. Better building codes and coordinated relief could reduce destruction, but floods remain a deadly force of nature.
